When it comes to coordinating and executing a flawless and stress-free event, SSA Group has unparalleled experience providing special event catering at cultural facilities. With a culinary focus on local specialties, fresh ingredients, and attention to detail, SSA’s Catering team is eager to assist you in planning every aspect of your special event.

Food & Beverage – Taste, Honolulu Zoo Catering offers a build your own menu option, or a traditional luau menu for your special day. Both menus feature local and sustainable selections. All food provided for events held at the Honolulu Zoo will be prepared by SSA’s in-house chef.
Full-Service Caterer – Entry to the Zoo, buffet supplies and linens for the tables will be provided by us. We also take care of equipment rentals and end of day clean up to make your experience a breeze.
Indoor and Outdoor events – Events with under 64 participants are able to enjoy their day inside The Honolulu Zoo’s Education Center. Events with over 64 participants will enjoy their day underneath a big white tent on one of our spacious grass lawns.

Information and Guidelines

Find important guidelines, policies, and tips to help you make the most of your visit to the Honolulu Zoo.

Event Hours

Indoor events are held from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM.
Outdoor events are held from 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM.

Service Time

All menus are served for a continuous 90 minutes.
Lunch is served between 11:00 AM and 1:30 PM, with 12:00 noon as the last start time.

Guest Count Minimum

Buffet menus are designed for a minimum of 30 paying guests.
If your guest count falls below this minimum, the price difference will be added to meet the required minimum.

Facilities

The Education Development Center (EDC) is the indoor venue at the Honolulu Zoo.

Maximum capacity: 65 guests
Availability: Saturdays and Sundays only
Tables and chairs are included at no additional cost

If attendance exceeds 65 guests, the event will be held on one of the zoo’s lawns. Tent and chair rentals will be required at an additional cost.

Room Fees

The Education Center accommodates up to 65 seated guests and includes a $500 room fee to reserve the space exclusively for your event. Pair the venue with one of our catering options and optional Zoo experiences to create a memorable celebration.

For larger celebrations, our Stage Lawn offers a spacious outdoor setting surrounded by the unique atmosphere of the Honolulu Zoo. This flexible space can accommodate everything from family gatherings to large scale events of 1,000+ guests.

There is no room fee for the Stage Lawn. Outdoor events are customized based on your event needs, with applicable costs for tent rentals, tables, chairs, and the outdoor buffet fee. Additional rentals and event enhancements can also be arranged to help transform the lawn for your celebration.

How to Book an Event

If you would like a proposal created, please reach out via email: hlzcatering@thessagroup.com. For inquiries, you may also call our catering department at (808)-924-0884. Booking is required at least 3 weeks in advance. For outdoor events, booking is required ASAP.

A 20% deposit (calculated from your proposal) will be required to reserve your date. All dates and times are considered unconfirmed until a deposit is received.
