Camp Policies

Safety First

Safety comes first! Please note that the following is required for all children attending Zoo Camp. In the unlikely event of an illness or emergency, Instructors need to be able to easily communicate with both the child and the parents or guardians.

All children attending camp MUST be able to speak and understand English, translators are not available.
A United States cellphone contact number must be available on the first day of Camp or the child may not attend. For international visitors, please rent or purchase a prepaid cellphone. Hotel phone numbers are not accepted.

Policies

Booking in advance is required, as spots fill up quickly. Please note that we do not refund for missed or partially missed days and some elements of our programs may change due to animal and staff availability.

Classes for children are held, rain or shine, in Hale ʻImi ʻIke (unless otherwise noted). All programs require participants to book in advance and wear closed-toe, covered shoes and their Camp T-Shirt during their time at the Zoo. All participants must be potty-trained to attend camp.

Camp Cancellation: A $25 fee will be charged for all registrations cancelled up to two weeks prior to the scheduled camp. Cancellations received two weeks prior to the scheduled camp will be refunded 50%. Cancellations received one week or less prior to the scheduled camp will not be refunded.

Junior Leader

A junior leader supports the Zoo Society’s Camp programs by helping the instructors with classroom activities and excursions on Zoo grounds. They provide extra attention to campers and assistance with projects such as wildlife journals, arts & crafts, and science-based lesson plans. Junior Leaders are normally graduates of Camp Koa who have demonstrated leadership among their peers and an affinity for conservation education.
