As a youngster growing up in Hawaiʻi, going to the Honolulu Zoo was always a treat for me. Later, as a parent, we loved bringing our son to the Zoo. He used to tell us that when he grew up, he was going to own a zoo...
But the realities of running a world class zoo are sobering; facility maintenance and improvements, food for the animals, medical care, educational programs, conservation programs, etc. While the City and County owns and operates the Zoo, the Honolulu Zoo Society’s mission is to provide additional support with programs, volunteers and financial contributions to enhance the experience of our visitors.
