A couple of times each year the American
flamingos must be moved from their exhibit at the entrance to Zoo to a
temporary location behind the marsh birds. This needs to done for annual
check ups, medication and also for exhibit repairs and renovation.
The horse trailer is backed into the
exhibit.
A plywood ramp is set in place.
The spoonbills will be relocated along
with the flamingos.
It takes just a little encouragement with
outstretched arms to get them moving in the right direction.
A temporary plastic
fence funnels them toward the trailer.
They are a little apprehensive about
the ramp and need more encouragement.
There was some excitement getting them
up the ramp; a few of the spoonbills escaped into the visitor area.
The flamingos rode in the trailer and the
spoonbills traveled in pet carriers.
A lone spoonbill slipped
away from the flock and needed to be caught by hand.
Safely caught!
The truck heads off to the marsh bird
exhibit.
After the birds are released they run
to their new quarters and are enjoying a change of scenery.
